Basically, here's where we all post pictures of our desktops, it makes for interesting conversation.
That's my one. As you can tell I like the colour purple as my taskbar, background and I also made a forum theme in purple too. I've also customised some of the icons including Internet Explorer to resemble the original bluer logo more but with a more 3D edge to it, I got a Google Chrome logo with a feel that's a mixture of the old and new logo looks nice and 3D! I also changed my MSPaint logo a lot, it resembles the older version which came with XP and Vista but has a more 3D look and a blue paint pot instead of clear. I also turned off the taskbar transparency as it looked silly, especially as the top bar when you turn a program off is not clear, the two combinations just clash. I also downloaded "Classic Shell" so A proper start button is enabled. I recently downloaded Windows 8.1 but the start button that comes with that just takes you to the tiles instead of giving you a proper Start Menu. I do like the design of 8.1's button though and used to use one very similar to it but recently I changed it to one which resembles the Winnows Vista and 7 orb. My background is just a graphic, I didn't want anything too boring or corporate but I didn't fancy any photos or such, so I went with a cool looking graphic (I typed in purple explosion into Google).
So, that's my desktop. I've shown you mine, now show me yours! Kinetix ◉◉NerO◉◉ titant Zarus daisuke

Good idea to get this post up again, here is mine, it is quite small cause it would be too big, as I use my TV screen as my computer screen, now how cool is that, so it might look quite small, but you will still be able to see what's there.

Cool desktop! I see you use Google Chrome then, I myself am a Internet Explorer kinda guy. I also see you chose to put your taskbar at the top of the screen and I presume that you are using Windows Vista. Just checking.

Nah, IE is crap, I know my shit about computer's and I really do know IE is a load of cow pat.
And the reason I have it at the top is because my screen his huge...not small and it's better to look up at the screen instead of the bottom. plus I can see full pages from the bottom too without the bar being there.
and yes I use VITSA, and in my opinion ion it's better...I did have a laptop with Windows 7 on, it was crap I sold it...I do have a windows tablet with Windows 8, witch is cool, but that's for different uses.

Really? Well I also use Opera Software now and then, but I never use my Chrome, I don't really like it much. Cool, I can see that to be honest. Looks quite cool actually, almost looks like an Apple Computer at the top! Really? I always thought that Vista was the worst of the bunch as people said it was stupid and over complicated (though I never used it). Although really it was probably just people being stupid. I think Vista looks good to be honest, I was just never sure about it's performance.

Well that is my opinion, for me IE was not loading up many websites for me, as for Chrome, it has never ever let me down yet, so it's a 10 star rating for me, Firefox is also a load of cow pat, so really to me, IE and Firefox are a load of poo. Yeah it's not that bad, I like it the best, I have used loads of different types of computers, and the computer I have now with Vista has also never really let me down, apart from my actual computer it's self, so again, I think VISTA is better than all of them, and it's not complicated, people are just too dumb to understand it.

Huh, I always felt the opposite. Although Google Chrome and speed isn't a problem, far from it I simply didn't like it's layout. IE doesn't let me down either. Unfortunately, Opera Software doesn't load videos as I need to install flash or something. I have Firefox on my main family computer and used it once but I did quite like it to be honest, I've been considering downloading it onto my laptop. Why not have four browsers. My thoughts exactly. People only like silly simple things which is why now everything including Windows 8 has to be in big bold colours in flat tone and they now look so boring. I think you're probably wrong about Windows 7 though, that is a solid operating system and apart from you I've never heard anything bad about it. Windows XP is bollocks though. Was good at the time but in hindsight it was appalling. It's so slow.

I had a bit of a computer crisis. So I downloaded this thing called "Aero Glass" "for Windows 8/8.1" whatever (if you typed in Aero Glass you'd find it). What it does it it gives Windows 8 and 8.1 the glass aero feel that windows 7 and even Vista had, which I liked. As an added bonus it even changed the three buttons (cross minimise and the other one) to look better. Now for the past day or so all has been good, it looked great and felt great but then a problem occurred. You see you know those annoying updates that Windows has now and then, especially on 7 and 8? Well one of those happened and yeah, I thought it was just going to be the same old boring nuisance which lasts a little while before ending. Boy I was wrong! After it a little while, this message popped up saying "BWF (or something) is not compatible with Aero Glass! (line) bla bla (next line) press retry to download something or other again". So I kept trying both but it just wouldn't end. It kept glithching as well switching from the classic windows 8.1 theme to the sort of Windows 9x themes aesthetic. Oh it was horrible, things turned blue and shit happened. Then eventually the download started again and kept switching and so forth for about an hour, then the fucking update ended (progress) and after lots of praying to God, the user login thingy turned up (hooray) but that damn incompatibility issue thing was still there and wouldn't leave. EVER. Eventually after turning things on and off, pressing thing, pressing keys such as "esc", "home" and "end" and sweating, somethign finally happened and I got onto my desktop!!!!! Then after waiting things out, I went onto the tiles page and that also appeared. Although things are slightly different now, for example, whenever I go onto an app on the tiles that isn't involved with the desktop, the icon appears on my taskbar when I minimise it oh and that's another thing - I can minimise apps instead of that other weird thing you usually do. Plus the windows store app is pinned to my taskbar (which to be honest I quite like, it's rumoured that windows 9 will do something similar to this). Either way, it's different and bound to be caused by this damn aero glass malfunction (unless it's coincidental of course and that's what the windows update was, doubtful though. I'll have to dig into it). Also something else, Internet Explorer doesn't work anymore! I go onto it but it just can't connect. But Opera and Google Chrome work perfectly fine. I think this has happened before and I usually just turned off the computer and put it on again and problem solved (I think). But I'm reluctant to turn it off for a long time due to this damn thing which I'm terrified will happen again. So right now I'm using Google Chrome and to be honest, I'm rather impressed. This just shows Internet Explorer is a feeble web browser if it's the easiest to malfunction. If even Opera Software (the B movie of web browsers) can go online but both desktop and app IE cannot, then that highlights the fact that it's a bad browser. I think I'll stick to Chrome for a while regardless now or at least Opera (although that doesn't have some of the capabilities of GC IE or even Firefox so maybe not). Plus when I try and go and use an app such as windows store, it doesn't really do anything either so that leads me to think there's another error. Growl, I hate Windows 8 sometimes! Why did they have to make it so weird and give it a boring metro theme instead of the good old aero theme? Although really it's just me for downloading too much crap, but it's only because I hate so many W8/8.1 features. Stardock was a waste of time. Temporarily impressive but lead to numerous (insignificant) glitches easily dealt with plus it was only avalible for free via 30 day trial which ended. Now this aero glass has been a gigantic mistake, the only thing to actually work (touch wood) is Classic Shell, that's really good! Kinetix, do you have any advice for me? Here's the first half of my taskbar (yeah the end half is the same as it is in the first photo) Look at the last icon to see what I mean by the app being there now. Strange huh? Oh, and before I forget, here's another bug I've noticed. Usually when I touch the top of the screen (when not programs are in the way or it) and I slide it downwards to get to the tiles, the cursor changes to that pointing finger one. Well now it stays as the arrow instead, something else weird I've noticed.

Okay Kinetix, here's an update. I turned my laptop off and have just turned it on again. Well there was partial success. So I turned it on and that damned message popped up again. I didn't click anything on it and just proceeded to logging on. Well I got onto the desktop and then I pressed "Cancel" and it went away. Internet Explorer still doesn't work, Windows store is still on my taskbar but now the three buttons (cross and so on) are like they were, thus the program is back again. I'm not sure what to do, Kinetix do you have any advice?

Third update. I didn't turn off the computer since the last post and suddenly the message turned up again (as when things were running smoothly, it too a while for the actual aero see through effect to turn on and when I posted the last post it was all solid but the buttons changed. But I guess that it tried to turn on but that message came up. Then lots of bad shit happened and before long there was nothing but a blank grey screen with the cursor so I turned it off and on again. Then it was still grey for a few second, then I was transported to the log on screen, but the same message was still there. Then what happened is I kept trying to log on and it didn't work for the rest of the night so after more panicking, I couldn't take any more, turned the bastard off and watched Through the Keyhole with Keith Lemon (Celebrity Juice is far better). Turned on this morning, and the message popped up but I was able to log on and do this, so I'm presuming that this is some nasty little cycle. If this does happen again, I think I will have no choice but to do a recovery next time I can get on. Oh and here's how the buttons look now, I prefer the look and it's one of the reason i downloaded it but it sure aint worth all this bother.

The main problem is that a lot of the time, the computer completely doesn't work at all. It's because I downloaded something and now whenever I turn on the computer, I immediately have a message appear about the DWM. Eventually at some point when using the laptop, the message reappears and nothing can be done. Eventually it goes to blank screen.

Yeah well if it is totally fooked, then you are better off giving you're computer a factory reset, but you will need to try and store your own somewhere if possible.

Update: I did (something similar) to restoring to factory settings. Basically I did a reset which does that but keeps files and pics. Had to get my parents to help out eventually. So I did that and now it's just like it was when I was given it minus the fact my personal files are still there. So now no more nasty glitches (touch wood) but one problem leads to another right? Now My Norton web security is back on 15 days free trial and I can;t get on the internet because I think it's clashing with Windows Defender. We can't be assed to deal with it though, so we;re waiting tomorrow. I'm on the main PC. Thanks for the advice though guys!
